The Human Rights Organization Nietes CABA-GBA reported an attack suffered by two members during the Arderá la Memoria Festival, held at the Ex Clandestine Center Virrey Cevallos last Saturday. According to the issued statement, the women were verbally and physically attacked by a man supporting President Javier Milei, who hurled insults such as "Damn Leftist" and "Long live cancer" while leaving the scene.
"Nietes CABA-GBA holds President Javier Milei and his cabinet responsible for the attacks and threats received against the activists, due to the reckless propagation of hate speech," the organization expressed. The assaulted women were wearing the organization’s shirts and a LGBTQ+ pride flag. The organization emphasized the importance of preventing violence and not being indifferent to these events.
The attack occurred following hate-filled statements by Javier Milei in Davos and his threats in defense of Elon Musk. Nietes calls for the federal antifascist and antiracist march in defense of human rights, opposing the government’s emptying of memory sites. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to the struggle for memory, truth, and justice, defending the diversity and happiness that unites them.
"Our commitment is to demand more memory, to know the truth, and to obtain justice. We celebrate diversity and stand firm against the violence and hatred that seek to silence us," stated Nietes CABA-GBA. The call for the Antifascist and Antiracist LGBTQ+ Pride march aims to join other organizations across the country in a message of inclusion and tolerance. The aggressions experienced during the festival highlight the importance of combating hate speech and promoting respect in society to prevent similar events in the future.
